Tehran Province, with a population of over 13 million people, has about 17 percent of Iran’s population. Today Tehran Province has 16 counties, 45 cities and 78 rural districts. On the north of it is Mazandaran Province, south is Qom, south west is Markazi province, West is Qazvin province and on the east there is Semnan province. 16 counties of Tehran are: Damavand, Islamshahr, Firuz Kuh, Pardis, Ray, Robat Karim, Shemiranat, Tehran, Varamin, Pakdasht, Pishva, Shahryar, Malard, Qods, Baharestan and Qarchak.
This province has 36 percent of industries, 36 percent of large companies and 40 percent of the country’s consumer market. Also Tehran with 80 percent of the volume and value of stock trading, about 8 percent of the country’s total import and export value and 40 percent of cooperatives of the whole country has special features in Iran’s economic sector. In this context, Tehran Province has been able to have about 20% of foreign investment in the country.
On the other hand, the fact that more than one third of the country’s industry plus different types of economical activities, IT and ICT centralism, more than four hundred trade units, extensive transportation facilities, universities and prestigious research centers, large commercial firms and etc are all focused in Tehran, has given this province a particular importance.
Because of proper infrastructure facilities such as skilled and educated workforce, extensive production facilities, extensive communication network and the political centrism Tehran province has a great range of economical variety as an economic hub of the country. Therefore, this region is being expanded in different aspects of industry, commercial and economic and has particular characteristics for attracting foreign investments.
